Penn State football officially loses former commit Josh Moten
A former Penn State football commit Josh Moten went back on his promise last month. Now, officially, he will not be in Happy Valley after all.
The 2020 recruiting cycle has been quite interesting for the Penn State football program. At times, it was exciting. But then there were other times where it was entirely stressful for the program, the fan base, and some players. As the Nittany Lions had a good start to the cycle with their commitments, they began to lose a few as summer has started.
In June, Penn State lost four commitments. One of them flipped their school of choice to Ohio State. Another decided to immediately de-commit from the Lions and make a promise to the Florida Gators. Then, the other two were withdrawing their promises without a set landing spot.
Those two prospects who de-committed without their future locked in happened to be four-star offensive lineman Aaryn Parks and four-star cornerback, Josh Moten. Parks’ decision to back out was a bit shocking. However, Moten’s didn’t come as much of a surprise.
There were rumblings before his official de-commitment about the potential of him backing out. But at the time, nobody really paid much attention to it. The timing of Moten’s decision to de-commit is what made his decision come off as a situation that was much more frustrating than it needed to be. Since Penn State already had two de-commitments in that same week, Moten’s departure caused more of an uproar than initially expected.
Where’s Moten headed to?
After taking a step back from his verbal commitment with Penn State, Moten needed a few weeks to come to a final decision for his future. He took on two official visits in the meantime. One to Texas A&M then followed that up with a visit to Nebraska.
While the Badgers were getting close to landing the four-star corner, Moten ultimately decided that Texas A&M is where he wanted to be. While Penn State held out a little bit of hope, it pretty much becomes official that Moten pulled the trigger on his decision to commit way too early. Penn State has moved on since then, and now so has Moten.
