The Penn State football program brought in another visitor this week by welcoming former offensive lineman, Stefen Wisniewski.

There was a two-in-one for the Penn State football program this week when it came to visitors from former players. Just a few days ago, legendary Penn State defensive lineman and former Kansas City Chiefs star Tamba Ali returned to campus to have a discussion with most of the teams 2019 Freshman class. The visitors didn’t just stop with Ali, though.

On Saturday, the Nittany Lions welcomed another former player, but this time it was an offensive lineman. Current Philadelphia Eagles offensive guard Stefen Wisniewski returned to Happy Valley with the same mission as Ali. Talk to the young players and motivate them for the future.

Wisniewski might not have the same professional impact on the NFL as Ali did, but he was surely no scrub while with the Nittany Lions. In both, 2009 and 2010, Wisniewski was voted First Team All-Big Ten as a center. He was drafted quite early in 2011, as he was the Oakland Raiders 48th pick in the second round. Although he is no longer a center with the Raiders, Wiz had a successful stint as a guard with the Eagles, notching a Super bowl win in 2017.

Now onto the losses…

Lately, Penn State’s 2020 recruiting class has made a bit of a comeback. Just last week, they were close to falling out of the Top-30 ranks by 247 Sports. After missing out on some top commitments, and losing four verbal commitments in a matter of a few weeks, it seemed like the sky was falling in Happy Valley.

Fortunately, that no longer seems to be the case for Penn State… For now, at least. Since last Friday, Penn State was fortunate enough to land eight commitments. One of which, happens to be their most significant addition to their recruiting class in defensive back, Enzo Jennings.

However, with gains, comes some losses. You can’t win them all in recruiting, and Penn State knows this well. Unfortunately, two Penn State targets decided to take their talents elsewhere for their college journey. The first prospect happens to be a four-star running back out of Ohio.

DeaMonte Trayanum was a prospect who had some significant interest within the Big Ten conference — especially from the Nittany Lions. Since April of 2018, Trayanum visited Happy Valley at least four times. Just last week, he came to campus for his official visit. But what he saw just wasn’t enough. Trayanum may not join Penn State, but at least he won’t be in the conference at all. Instead, he committed to Arizona State University.

Another prospect Penn State had their eyes on happened to be a linebacker, Cody Simon. He was another player who had quite a few visits to Happy Valley as well, although none of them were reported officially. Despite being a target for Penn State, the odds were never in favor of the Lions landing Simon. And similar to Trayanum, Simon had a lot of interest from teams within the Big Ten. Except for this time, Simon does plan to stay in the Big Ten — but he will be in Ohio State.
