The Penn State Football program collected a couple more commitments on Friday by adding two defensive linemen.

My oh my how times have changed over the last couple of weeks. At the beginning of June, the Penn State football program seemed to have lost its touch. Just months after losing their eventual starting quarterback Tommy Stevens to MSU, the Lions would soon lose a handful of commitments as well, which added salt into the wound one de-commitment after another.

It all started with Grant Toutant — a three-star offensive lineman who upped and left for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Then Aaryn Parks and Josh Moten stepped back on their commitments and decided to open their recruitment back up once again. Everything settled down for a bit after that until four-star linebacker Derek Wingo flipped his commitment to the Florida Gators.

Despite the recent issues over the last few weeks, the Penn State coaching staff stayed on top of everything. As they hardly let the recruiting losses phase them, they kept their game faces on and went with the flow. Obviously, whatever they were doing would work as a total of eight prospects have committed in the span of a week.

The new names

We are all well aware by now of who recently committed over the past week. Here’s a quick rundown of names for those who forgot:

  • Ji’Ayir Brown, S
  • Tyler Elsdon, LB
  • Fatorma Mulbah, DT
  • Coziah Izzard, DT
  • Jaden Dottin, WR
  • Enzo Jennings, DB

Six commitments aren’t bad when the dead period for college football kicks in for the next month. And now all of the recent camps and visits are beginning to pay off tremendously because along with the six prospects who committed this week, there are two more to add to the class.

Brandon Taylor, DE

The 2020 class for defensive linemen just got even better after they landed two guys for the inside last week. This week, the Nittany Lions land two pass rushers for the outside. The first commitment on Friday night came from Lima, Ohio prospect, Brandon Taylor. He’s a six-foot-three-inch, 250-pound three-star defensive end who ranks 16th in the State of Ohio. After gaining some substantial interest around Ohio, Taylor ultimately decided it would be best to take his talents to Pennsylvania after talking it over with his family.

Amin Vanover, DE

Another defensive end prospect added to the Penn State 2020 class. About an hour after Taylor’s commitment, Montvale, New Jersey prospect Amin Vanover offered his commitment to the Nittany Lions as well. Similar to his future teammate, Vanover is a three-star prospect, who measures up to six-foot-four-inches and weighs 260-pounds. The two commitments on Friday take Penn State’s 2020 recruiting class to the next level as they now rank tenth in the nation.

Another four-star DB could be in the mix soon. dark. Next
