Penn State football: The addition of Enzo Jennings increases recruiting rank
The Penn State football program recently landed a four-star prospect, Enzo Jennings. Now, where do they rank for the 2020 recruiting cycle?
The beginning of June was a tough start to the summer for the Penn State football program. Despite it being a productive month with camp-filled weekends, and prospect offerings — the Nittany Lions suffered a lot more losses than gains at first.
It all started with their first commitment from the 2020 class, Grant Toutant. The three-star lineman had a change of heart and decided to flip from Penn State to Ohio State in the matter of one weekend. Then, a few days later, the Lions lost yet another lineman. This time, it was a four-star prospect, Aaryn Parks. Although Parks didn’t flip to another school just yet, he wasn’t so sure that Penn State was the place for him. Therefore, he opened up his recruiting once again.
Unfortunatley, it didn’t just end there. To add salt into the wound, four-star cornerback Josh Moten took back his commitment as well and decided to open up his recruitment once again. In a matter of one week, the Lions ended up losing three guys, and the fans were beginning to lose confidence in the recruiting process.
Fortunatley, Penn State got some redemption recently. But the additions did happen to come with a subtraction. This past weekend, Penn State added four prospects. Two on Friday, and two on Saturday. With the wave of the four prospects coming in, though, another committed player decided to back out and flip his commitment as well.
Four-star linebacker Derek Wingo didn’t do PSU any favors. After thinking long and hard about his move to Happy Valley for the 2020 season, he ultimately decided that he wants to stay in Florida. But Penn State won’t dwell on that loss — because after Wingo’s de-commitment, they were able to land two more guys. On Tuesday, the Lions landed three-star linebacker, Tyler Elsdon. And on Thursday, they landed a big name in the 2020 recruiting cycle in four-star defensive back, Enzo Jennings.

Where do the Nittany Lions rank now?
Last season, Penn State was ranked 13th for the results of their 2019 recruiting class. This year, they started off within the top 15, but after their wave of de-commitments, they took a hard fall and almost fell out of the top 30. Fortunately, their recent six commitments picked them back up and put them back around where they started earlier in the recruiting cycle.
According to 247 Sports, Penn State’s national rank is currently 15th for the 2020 class. Their Big Ten status is third, behind Michigan and Ohio State. Not too bad considering where they were last week. And if they can pick up a couple more big names during the NCAA’s dead period, they could find themselves closer to the top ten just like last season.
