Outlook:

There’s probably only around a 20-30% chance that Josh Reaves gets drafted Thursday night. However, you never know, as the second round of the NBA Draft is always nowhere near what anyone projects.

As we saw with Trace McSorley in the NFL Draft, when a team has one more pick left in the draft, they’re going to take the guy they like no matter where they’re projected to be drafted. All it takes is for Josh Reaves to be “the guy” for one team, and he could be selected anywhere from picks 35-60.

Even if he goes undrafted, it’s sometimes it’s more beneficial for players that are going to be drafted in the mid-late second round to not be selected. This way, they’re able to choose the best fit for them, and sign somewhere as an undrafted free agent.

We saw this with Allonzo Trier this past season, and he ended up having a significant role with the Knicks from the start of the season all the way to the end.

Whether Reaves is drafted or not, he’ll be a participant in the NBA Summer League, which begins the first week of July. This is where he’ll compete for a spot on an NBA roster, whether it’s a spot on the actual roster, or a two-way contract.

A two-way contract allows players to be brought up from the G-League and sent back down to the G-League constantly throughout the season.

The NBA Draft begins Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, and will be live on ESPN.
