Penn State Football has their eyes on four-star running back, Sam Adams and the interest is slightly mutual for now.

The springtime is winding down, and summertime is approaching. That means Sammamish, Washington native Sam Adams II will begin his tour of NCAA teams where there’s mutual interest. Though CBS’ 24/7 sports predicts Adams will likely land with the Washington Huskies when it time to choose, the four-star running back out of Eastside Catholic will give six teams a shot.

Recently, Adams picked his top six schools that he has interest in over the last week or so. The Alabama Crimson Tide is one school that has an interest. An obvious offer from Washington came in. Ohio State, Texas A&M, and Florida are on his list, and the Penn State Nittany Lions ended up making the cut after a long wait for an answer from the standout running back.

So far, Penn State doesn’t have a running back locked in for their 2020 draft class. As they are on the pursuit for Adams, they have a ton of convincing to do in order to get him to re-locate to the East Coast. Maybe the recent past success of Nittany Lions’ running backs such as Saquon Barkley and Miles Sanders will help in the end game. As Adams dwells on the decision though, he did he mention that he enjoys the way Penn State uses its running backs.

An eye for versatility

Nowadays, running backs are expected to do it all — especially if they are on the lighter side of things. Although Sam Adams has decent size, standing six-foot-two-inches, he offers some reliable versatility out of the backfield. Rather than being a hard-nosed power back, Adams fits in with the mold of the Lions backfield as a ‘do-it-all’ guy, which attracted him to Penn State in the first place.

“The way they use their running backs as a receiver, that could really fit me like at Eastside Catholic,” Adams told Sean Fitz of 247 Sports. But the way they utilize running backs in Happy Valley is only half the battle for Adams.

He also mentioned that he needs to have the undivided interest in the whole package, which includes academics as well as a good relationship with the coach.

As of right now, Adams doesn’t have a visit scheduled, but as he intends on making a final decision later on in the summer, and potentially early fall, the Nittany Lions could find out soon whether they will finally lock in a running back for next year’s class or not.
