On Wednesday, the Big Ten Conference announced its 28 winners for the 2019 Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship Award.

Every year, the Big Ten Conference looks for ways to honor student-athletes for their contributions on and off the field. This specific annual award seeks to honor one male and one female athlete for their outstanding sportsmanship from the previous season. While more than 350 student-athletes are nominated for the award from their respective program — only 28 players become finalists.

Former Penn State Football safety Nick Scott will be the honorary player for the 2019 outstanding sportsmanship class. The Virginia native wrapped up his final season with the Nittany Lions this past fall and has moved on to the next level in the NFL. However, he will continue to get rewarded for his on, and off-field actions, which should serve him well at the next level.

A statement from the Big Ten Conference

"“One member of each varsity sports team on every campus was chosen by his or her institution as a Sportsmanship Award honoree, and two Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners were then selected from each institution. All of the Sportsmanship Award winners have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, these honorees must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.”"

It doesn’t come as much of a surprise that Scott was able to obtain the award for Penn State Football. After all, the Senior captain has established himself as a leader during his Junior season. Just last year, Scott earned Penn State’s Captains award for their team honors at the end of the 2017-2018 season after serving as the team leader for the first time. Now, the two-time captain will continue to grow at the next level as a seventh-round draft pick for the Los Angeles Rams.
