Penn State Football: Blue defeats White in annual Blue-White Game
Penn State football presented its annual Blue-White Game
Although it wasn’t a real game, Penn State football was on the field Saturday for the annual Blue-White game. Over 60,000 fans flocked to Beaver Stadium to partake in the pregame festivities and sneak a peek at the 2019 Nittany Lions. There wasn’t a lot of action, but the Blue squad topped the White, 24-7.
The Blue was made mostly of projected starters, but some players did switch sides throughout the game.
Freshman running back Noah Cain looked strong, scoring two total touchdowns. He had a two-yard run for the White and an eight-yard touchdown receptions for the Blue. He finished the game with 46 total yards rushing.
Ricky Slade, the projected starter at running back heading into 2019, also scored for the Blue.
Defense was the name for the Blue, as the side racked up 10 tackles for loss and six total sacks. Sophomore linebacker Ellis Brooks led the way with six total tackles. Five-star freshman linebacker Brandon Smith led the White with six tackles.
Heading into the game, quarterback was a position to watch. Tommy Stevens, who should enter the year as the projected starter, has been dealing with an injury this spring and has been limited in practice. He was dressed for the Blue-White Game, but not surprisingly, didn’t see any playing time.
Sean Clifford, Will Levis, and true freshman Michael Johnson all played at quarterback and looked good. Clifford led the way with 118 yards passing. Levis threw for 86 yards and a touchdown, while Johnson completed four passes for 36 yards.
The Blue-White Game was the culmination of Penn State’s 15 spring practices. The team won’t practice together until the summer as they prepare for the start of the 2019 season.
