Penn State Football: Top five scrambling QBs in program history
5. Zack Mills
Zack Mills didn’t get the love as a winner in the program, but he played with a toughness and grit that rivals almost anybody. About the time Penn State football started using more of a shotgun, spread style of attack, the gunslinging lefty led the offense in that transition.
He didn’t put up huge rushing numbers during his four seasons (2001-2004) or have the highlights of others on this list, but he wasn’t afraid to stick his nose into the teeth of the defense and run through defenders. For four seasons he ran the offense, while becoming the, at-the-time, all-time leading passer in PSU history and an underrated, runner (Video Courtesy of vinnymckee).
He finished with 7,212 yards passing, 41 touchdowns against 39 interceptions, not the best numbers by any means. But, his 584 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns on the ground made him a fun player to watch. Also, he did have the 2002 season where Penn State finished 9-4 and he accounted for 20 total touchdowns.
