Penn State football hosted Pro Day Tuesday

Tuesday inside of Holuba Hall represented an opportunity for Penn State football players to show off in front of NFL personnel in a comfortable and familiar environment. 14 Nittany Lions worked out and went through drills, with quarterback Trace McSorley and running back Miles Sanders standing out.

Representatives from nearly every NFL team were on hand to watch the workouts. A popular face in the crowd was former Penn State and current New York Giants running back, Saquon Barkley. The star running back was seen giving Sanders some tips throughout the day.

After working out at the NFL Combine in February, McSorley likely still has some work to do in order to get himself drafted as a quarterback. He turned down an offer at the Combine to work with the defensive backs.

Tuesday’s Pro Day certainly didn’t hurt McSorley’s case to be a quarterback at the next level. He showed off his skills by throwing different types of throws — anything from shot slants to deep posts.

McSorley threw for 30 minutes and roughly 50 passes, only four of which that were not caught.

Like McSorley, Sanders also had a strong Pro Day. He followed up a strong performance in Indy by impressing scouts once again Tuesday. Aside from running, Sanders showed his ability to catch passes out of the backfield, something that he didn’t do a lot of during this past season.

Wide receiver DeAndre Thompkins, who was catching passes from McSorley, also had a good day. He made some terrific cuts and showed great ability to run routes. He also had several impressive catches.

Thompkins didn’t get an invite to the NFL Combine, but he surely impressed scouts on Pro Day, particularly with his 4.33 40-yard dash time, the fastest of the day.

Defensive backs Nick Scott and Amani Oruwariye and linebacker Koa Farmer also put up some strong numbers on the day.

McSorley, Sanders, and the others will continue to work out and possibly meet with teams in hopes of getting drafted in the upcoming 2019 NFL Draft.
