Penn State Football: McSorley, Oruwariye headline Lions in All-Star games
Five Penn State football seniors received opportunities to play in all-star games. They leave the Nittany Lions with a four-year record of 38-15.
One of the senior classes that helped build Penn State football back into a contender yielded some due for its efforts. Five Nittany Lions got all-star invitations to showcase their skills to pro scouts. Three-year starting quarterback Trace McSorley and two-year starting corner Amani Oruwariye lead the list of PSU prospects, playing in next Saturday’s Senior Bowl.
Senior long snapper Kyle Vasey already participated in the Tropical Bowl last weekend, and Linebacker Koa Farmer and safety Nick Scott are playing today in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.
McSorley and Oruwariye lead this group, because both have the best chances of making an NFL roster. The fifth-year QB led Penn State to its greatest run in a decade and put up huge numbers. He’s got a great pro comparison to last year’s No. 1 overall pick, Baker Mayfield. His competitiveness, toughness, playmaking as a scrambler and accuracy when healthy all give him a shot to get drafted. A solid performance in the senior bowl would add to his chances.
Oruwariye projects as a possible mid-round-to-early selection. His size (6-foot-1, 200 pounds) and ability to create turnovers (eight interceptions, one forced fumble) over the last three seasons has a chance to play early.
Farmer and Scott have interesting, productive college careers. Both moved positions later in their careers, so it’s hard to project where they’ll land. The former moved from safety to linebacker and produced at times, but he was inconsistent. Farmer showed an ability to rush the passer, play some coverage and could translate to the newfound ‘moneybacker’ position in the NFL (A hybrid safety/linebacker).

Scott went from running back to safety and became the clutch player Penn State relied on, on defense to come up with a big play. His versatility helps his chances of getting a look somewhere at the next level. Vasey started all 13 games at long snapper and played clean, aiding a special team’s unit that featured one of the best punters in the country in Bake Gillikin.
