Penn State Football Recruiting: Looking to the future

The future is looking bright for Penn State football recruiting. 

Penn State football recruiting is looking strong this year. The Class of 2019 is currently ranked 13th in the nation by 247sports.com. Back-to-back wins against Wisconsin and Rutgers, which put the Nittany Lions back in the conversation for a New Year’s Six Bowl, are also helping PSU draw in top prospects. Let’s discuss what the future looks like for Penn State football recruiting by looking at some of the prospects in the Classes of 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Class of 2020 

The nation’s No. 1 player in the Class of 2020, Bryan Bresee (6-5, 290, DE, Damascus HS) , is considered a warm prospect by 247sports.com, and has a 38 percent chance of committing to PSU, according to 247’s Crystal Ball.

Bresee took an unofficial visit to PSU in late September. Make no mistake about it; Bresee would be the most notable prospect to sign in Penn State football recruiting history.

Is Bresee the next J.J. Watt like some think? Well, Watt wasn’t the nation’s number one recruit out of high school. He was playing tight end at Central Michigan and delivering pizzas before taking his talents back home to Wisconsin. Bresee already has NFL size, great ability to get off the ball and is incredibly aware and agile. His play recognition and football IQ is off the charts. If anything, I see him having a Jadeveon Clowney like impact. He’s not as fast as Clowney, but he can dominate from the moment he steps on campus.

Another Class of 2020 name to pay attention to is Julian Fleming (WR, 6-2, 205, Southern Columbia HS). The five-star receiver is rated the No.1 Player in Pennsylvania, and No. 9 overall in the class. Fleming took two unofficial visits to PSU in September. Fleming was rocking a pair of Ohio State gloves in a game a few weeks ago.

It’s unclear as of now where Fleming will commit. Fleming told LettermenRow.com that people “assume” PSU is the favorite, but ultimately he wants to go where he can develop his skills to get ready for the next level.

Class of 2021

Running back Evan Pryor (5-11, 175, William Amos High) seems to be an early favorite to commit to PSU. The North Carolina native has offers from SEC schools like Florida and Mississippi State. Pryor has great hands out of the backfield and field vision.

Landon Tengwall (6-6, 300, OT, Our Lady Good Counsel HS) is another hot name to watch. He’s a big, physical offensive lineman out of Maryland.

Class of 2022

Defensive end K.J. Miles (6-4, 225, DE, St. Peter’s Prep) is a name to pay attention to. The freshman has great size, instinct and plenty of offers coming in already. Just look at him next to NFL defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad.

Looking pretty big for a freshman, right?

Keep an eye on freshman quarterback Aidan Semo (6-3, 170, QB, Cornwall HS). Semo has made a name for himself, and is considered the 11th best Pro-Style Passer in his class by QBHitList.com. Semo works with QB coach Leon Clarke, who developed talents such as Tennessee starting QB Jarrett Guarantano, Syracuse QB Tommy DeVito and current Nittany Lion Will Levis.

One can only hope that some of these young studs will bring their talents to State College.
