Penn State Football: Grades versus Rutgers
By Dylan Burd
Secondary
For the second straight game, the Penn State secondary allowed 60 yards or less passing. In the previous week, they allowed 60 passing yards to Wisconsin, and then allowed just 46 to Rutgers. Yes, the quarterback play for both of those teams have been horrific, but that’s still an accomplishment.
In addition to allowing minimal passing yards on only five completed passes the entire game, the Penn State secondary also came up with two interceptions. One of the interceptions was by safety Garrett Taylor, and the other was by cornerback John Reid.
Safety Nick Scott led the secondary in tackles with six. Safety Garrett Taylor had five, while cornerback John Reid had three.
A quiet day from the secondary is a good thing, and with Tyrell Pigrome, who completed six passes versus Ohio State, and Maryland next on the schedule, they should be able to sustain their recent success against the Terms this week.
