Coaching

The coaching in this game was very good, as Penn State’s game plan vs Wisconsin was almost executed perfectly. Penn State ran the ball well, and completely took out the passing game of Wisconsin, realizing that the Badgers were probably going to have some success rushing no matter what.

The only issue I had was with the play calling at times. I don’t understand how Trace McSorley was allowed to run 11 times in that game, when he was clearly barely able to move. It’s not only that it was clear that this wouldn’t be effective, but no one wants to see McSorley get hurt even worse than he already is now.

Designed runs for McSorley should be completely out of the play book until the bowl game. There’s absolutely no doubt in my mind about that.

Overall, while this season has fallen short of expectations, the coaching staff has a chance to put this team into their third straight New Years’ Six Bowl game, something that many programs around the nation would die for. The coaching staff should get a ton of credit for that.
