Defensive tackle Robert Windsor honored for his play against the Badgers.

Penn State football thrived this weekend against Wisconsin, thanks in part to the play of junior defensive tackle Robert Windsor. The Fort Du Lac, WI native had two sacks and six tackles. The Badgers offense was stifled by the Nittany Lion’s defense.

Thanks to the play of Windsor and the rest of the defense, Penn State was able to hold Wisconsin to a season-low 10 points. Wisconsin backup quarterback Jack Coan racked up a mediocre 60 yards passing, and a pair of interceptions. Coan’s 60 passing yards were the lowest by a Wisconsin quarterback since Tanner McEvoy’s 50 yard performance against LSU in 2014.

As expected, Badgers’ star running back Jonathan Taylor touched the ball 20 times and put up plenty of yards and a score, but that’s okay. Wisconsin’s predictable offense did it’s thing on the ground, and PSU defensive coordinator Brent Pry capitalized on the fact that Wisconsin was starting a backup QB.

If you take a closer look at Penn State Football this season, Windsor’s big performance couldn’t have come at a better time. In a year where the defense hasn’t been anything to write home about, Windsor was a spark plug for the Nittany Lions’ defense this past Saturday, in a game that put some life back into this year’s team.

Windsor was a three-star recruit coming out of high school, who had an offer from Wisconsin. He grew up an hour and a half from Madison. This game meant a lot to him, and the results showed. James Franklin named Windsor the defensive captain for this game, and he carried the title well.

Windsor is the second Nittany Lion to be named Big Ten Defensive Player of The Week this year. Sophomore defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos won the prestigious award for his nine tackle, two sack performance against Iowa.

Things look promising for Penn State football this week. They’ll be heading to Piscataway, NJ to take on a dysfunctional, distraught and downright defeated Rutgers squad. Don’t be surprised if Gross-Matos and Windsor put up comparable numbers against the Scarlet Knights.
