Penn State basketball will open up its season vs North Florida at 7:30 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center on Friday night.

After over seven months since the Penn State Nittany Lions hoisted the NIT trophy at Madison Square Garden, the 2018-19 college basketball season is finally upon us. While the NIT victory and the second most wins in school history (26) made for a successful year, the climb of Penn State Basketball still hasn’t neared its peak yet.

Tony Carr is now in Italy after being drafted 51st overall to the New Orleans Pelicans, and Shep Garner is now with the Grand Rapids Drive of the NBA G-League, but the loss of the Nittany Lions’ starting backcourt may not have the effect on the team that you think.

Penn State is a team that’s not typically thought of as a real challenge on the court. They are flying under the radar again this year and could really surprise some people.

Despite the limited national preseason recognition, there’s a large possibility that the 2018-19 Penn State basketball team will be better than the one of 2017-18. In fact, there are several reasons why the Nittany Lions will even be a NCAA tournament team this season. Here they are.
