Penn State Football Recruiting: Reactions to 42-7 loss versus Michigan

Members of the current Penn State football recruiting class had various reactions to the Nittany Lions’ big loss at Michigan Saturday. 

Saturday’s 42-7 loss to Michigan may have some Nittany Lion fans hitting the panic button, but recruits from the Penn State football recruiting class of 2019 still believe that James Franklin’s squad can still salvage something from this season. Multiple players from the nation’s fourteenth best recruiting class shared their thoughts on social media:

Four-star OG Caedan Wallace (The Hun School, Princeton, NJ):

Wallace took a firm stance that he isn’t letting the ups and downs of the 2018 season sway him from leaving the program. Fellow recruits Anthony DaSilva (Walk-on Commit, K), Keaton Ellis (four-star CB), and Lance Dixon (four-star WR),  retweeted Wallace in support of the program.

Fans responded positively to Wallace’s dedication to the team. One fan went as far as saying that Wallace may be one of the best to ever play on the offensive line for the Nittany Lions. A bold statement? Yes. But, fan support is definitely needed to keep the morale high for recruits.

Four-star dual-threat QB Taquan Roberson (DePaul Catholic, Wayne, NJ): 

The dual-threat QB took to Twitter before Saturday’s game in Ann Arbor to support – like many fans did – a possible upset victory for PSU.

We all know the outcome of the game, but Roberson’s dedication wasn’t diminished by the loss. Much like Wallace, Roberson made it known that he doesn’t plan on switching teams any time soon. Roberson retweeted redshirt freshman DT Fred Hansard.

P George Eberle (Vorhees High School, Vorhees, NJ)

Eberle announced his commitment to Penn State on Saturday, right after kick off. He will be considered a preferred walk-on. Eberle also serves as the starting QB for his high school squad. He recently hit 5,000 career passing yards. Could we see Eberle tossing a deep ball on a fake punt in the future?

Four-star dual-threat QB Michael Johnson Jr. (Sheldon High School, Eugene, Oregon)

Johnson Jr. showed pregame support for PSU and Trace McSorley.

Unfortunately it didn’t matter how much ice was in McSorley’s veins. Michigan’s defense put on a clinic Saturday, holding the Nittany Lion’s offense to 186 total yards of offense.

There’s a silver lining in this loss — recruits are supporting the program, remaining dedicated to the bigger picture and supporting current players as they look to finish the next three games off in a strong fashion.
