Penn State Football: Position grades versus Iowa
By Dylan Burd
Secondary
The secondary was just as good as the defensive line in this game! Nate Stanley only threw for 205 yards, and didn’t have a passing touchdown. As mentioned previously, Stanley completed only 18 of his 49 passing attempts, and had a QBR of 13.2.
The secondary combined to have seven passes defended in this game and two interceptions. Senior cornerback Amani Oruwariye had six tackles and two passes defended. Corner Tariq Castro-Fields had one pass defended, and corner John Reid had three passes defended, and one of the interceptions which he ran back to the three yard line. Reid also had a QB hurry.
Safety Garrett Taylor was out for the first half due to suspension from targeting last week, but had six second half tackles. Jonathan Sutherland, who filled in for Taylor when he was out, had a pass defended. Senior safety Nick Scott also had a big game with five tackles, and the other Penn State interception, which came when Iowa was at the Penn State three yard line down by just six points.

Also, Iowa’s tight end, Noah Fant, arguably the best tight end in the nation, and didn’t catch a pass until the fourth quarter. This was undoubtedly the secondary’s best game of the season.
