Penn State Football: If Iowa repeats 2017, McSorley has the answer
In a career that’s looking for career win No. 28, Penn State football’s Trace McSorley has gained a reputation as the comeback king.
It’s been more than 13 months since Penn State football senior quarterback Trace McSorley hit Juwan Johnson over two defenders as time expired to avoid the upset on the road, 21-19. It was a huge throw, and it was an even bigger win. It also seems like some time ago, as the passing game has struggled with drops and overall inconsistency.
With that said, this may be a great opportunity for McSorley and the receiving corp to get back on track. Penn State needs to show up so it’s not in a defensive dogfight yet again. Last year snuck up on the Nittany Lions, but McSorley did this when they needed him (Video Courtesy of Big Ten Network).
By 2018, it’s become commonplace for the senior quarterback to make great plays in big games. When the defense failed to show up early against Appalachian State and Penn State needed him, McSorley answered the call.
He threw a touchdown to KJ Hamler to tie the game and eventually the Nittany Lions came out on top in overtime, 45-38. In a game where Iowa is a whole lot closer team-wise than last year, Penn State might need its senior QB to find some late-game magic yet again. Something that’s he become accustomed to.
I know some people would point to Michigan State and say he didn’t get the job done, but he’s come up big way more often than not. If it hadn’t been for a defensive collapse against Ohio State, his 461 total yards of offense would’ve won the game.
Coming back around for this matchup, he has a real chance to further a clutch legacy that no one else can boast. He helped turn the program around during his time and could continue to keep expectations high with another tremendous finish to the season.
There’s no doubt he can get this done. Clutch moments are what McSorley does, and he’ll have the next biggest opportunity today against the 6-1, No. 18 Iowa Hawkeyes. A win against them can still the raging waters after three weeks of subpart football.
