Penn State Football: Position grades versus Michigan State
By Dylan Burd
Secondary
The Penn State secondary was the definition of a roller coaster ride this weekend. You have safety Garrett Taylor who played undoubtedly the best game of his career with six tackles, five passes defended, and an interception.
Then, you have Amani Oruwariye who played undoubtedly the worst game of his career, as he dropped what would have been the game-winning interception, and then let Michigan State wide receiver Felton Davis III score the game-winning touchdown. Oruwariye also had four tackles and four passes defended.
Safeties Lamont Wade and Jonathan Sutherland had a combined seven tackles, and corners Donovan Johnson and John Reid each had four tackles. John Reid also had a pass defended. Corner Tariq Castro-Fields had two tackles, and a pass defended.
The stats may have looked good for some of the individuals in the secondary, but the theme remained the same. They couldn’t defend with the game on the line, and it ultimately cost Penn State the game.
Grade: D+
