Penn State Football: Position grades versus Ohio State
By Dylan Burd
Linebackers
It was a pretty terrible game for the linebackers on Saturday night, as they failed to pick up a screen pass all game. Dwayne Haskins was 11 for 12 with 157 yards and two touchdowns on screen passes. It’s one of the many reasons Penn State lost the game.
The linebackers needed to go a better job of not only recognizing the screen, but also tackling in the open field. On Ohio State’s last drive of the game, they went 96 yards on eight plays, 73 of which were on screen passes. That’s a disaster.
Koa Farmer led the team in tackles with eight, including a half a tackle for loss, and Cam Brown had six tackles. Jan Johnson had five tackles, and Micah Parsons had his worst game of the season with only one tackle, including a half-a-sack.
The linebacker unit, while inexperienced, hit a major bump in the road last night after starting off the season pretty decently. They’ll have to pick it up as the Nittany Lions still have some tough games left on the schedule.
