Penn State have a long lineage of standout offensive linemen. During the early 1990s, Jeff Hartings made his mark on the University with his incredible durability. Hartings was a big Notre Dame fan growing up, but he loved Steve Wisniewski and Mike Munchak as well, He decided to play his college ball in Happy Valley, where he would go on to be one of the best offensive lineman in school history.

The Penn State program is sure happy he did, as he turned his career at the college level into a possible Hall of Fame one, as he was on the ballot for the College Football Hall of Fame this past year. A two-time All-American during his time with the Nittany Lions, Hartings was a key cog on the offensive line that went undefeated during the 1994 season, parlaying that into a pretty solid NFL career.

Hartings was an All-American in 1994 and 1995. The Detroit Lions ended up taking him in the first round of the 1996 NFL Draft. He ended up playing 10 seasons in the NFL, winning a Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hartings was twice named both a Pro Bowler and a First-Team All-Pro.

That 1994 Penn State team was pretty special, as it sent multiple players to the next level, including guys like Kerry Collins, Ki-Jana Carter, Kyle Brady and Bobby Engram. That was a pretty special offensive unit, but as it is with any football team, all success starts up front. For a couple of seasons inside Beaver Stadium, Hartings was the main man creating space for the skill players to do some serious damage.
