Penn State Football: 30 greatest players of all-time
By Brad Weiss
Since bursting onto the scene as a true freshman, Saquon Barkley has become a household name for football fans all over the world. His highlight reel career as a member of the Penn State program is the stuff of legend. Barkley parlayed his incredible time in Happy Valley into being the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Let us start from the beginning, as his three-year run as the starting running back inside Beaver Stadium was an impressive one. Barkley came to Penn State after being named Mr. Football in the state of Pennsylvania, and did not disappoint. A Freshman All-American, Barkley was a force in the Big Ten over the last three seasons, and is rightfully deserving of a spot on our list.
Barkley was twice named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, and led the Nittany Lions to a Big Ten championship back in 2016. An All-American last season, Barkley rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his three seasons at Penn State, averaging nearly six yards per carry in the process.
For his career, Barkley set the Penn State record for rushing touchdowns, as he found the end zone 43 times. Back in 2017, he set the single-game all-purpose record at the school, as he racked up 358 yards against a tough Iowa defense.
Twice a First-Team All-Big Ten selection, Barkley left his mark inside Beaver Stadium, and will go down as one of the more electric, and productive running backs the Big Ten Conference has ever seen.
