You would have to go way back in the archives if you want to see the highlights of Lenny Moore, but if you can get your hands on those tapes, he was certainly something to watch. A standout two-way player for Penn State, Moore would go on to be one of the more decorated Nittany Lions to play in the NFL, and comes in as the No. 3 player in the program’s history on our list.

Moore was the first person in his family to attend college, and boy, did he make his mark on the Penn State football program. An All-American in both 1954 and 1955, Moore was not only a tremendous running back, rushing for over 1,000 yards in only nine games in 1954, but also a terrorizing defensive back on the other side of the football.

Prior to his death, former head coach Joe Paterno called Moore the greatest player he had ever coached, and for good reason. When Moore was done with his college career, the Baltimore Colts drafted him with the No. 9 overall selection in the 1956 NFL Draft. He proved to be certainly worth the top-10 draft slot.

Moore would go on to win two NFL Championships with the Colts, and was named to the Pro Bowl seven times. In addition, he was a First-Team All-Pro five time. In 1975, he was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

It is kind of crazy that he was never elected to the College Football Hall of Fame, but Penn State fans know what an amazing player Moore was during his time at State College.
