Penn State Football: 30 greatest players of all-time
By Brad Weiss
Dave Robinson was not only a standout player during his time at Penn State, but also at the next level. He has the hardware that shows just the kind of player he was during his football career. Robinson came to Penn State via Moorestown (NJ) High School. During his time in Happy Valley, he was a dominant end on both sides of the ball.
Robinson played for the Nittany Lions from 1960-62, appearing in 55 games for the program over that time span. He was named an All-American by the Associated Press, the College Player of the Year by the Newark Athletic Club, and was named the Gator Bowl Most Valuable Player. In fact, Robinson is also a member of the Gator Bowl Hall of Fame.
After going 9-1 as a senior, Robinson was drafted by both the NFL, and the AFL, becoming a member of the Green Bay Packers. The Packers drafted Robinson in the first round in 1963, making him the No. 14 overall selection. He would go on win three NFL Championships, and then two Super Bowls with the Pack.
Over the course of his career, Robinson was elected to both the College and Pro Football Hall of Fame, as he was finally given his Gold Jacket in 2013. Robinson’s legacy at Penn State, and in the NFL, is one of the more decorated in the history of the sport. Though he has not played for the program in over 50 years, what he did during his time at State College will never be forgotten.
