In the history of Penn State football, there have been few offensive lineman that can match the kind of career that Steve Wisniewski had. Affectionately known as “The Wiz”, Wisniewski was an anchor on the 1986 national championship team, and parlayed his standout college career into a very successful NFL career at the next level.

During his time at Penn State, Wisniewski was a two-time All-American. Next year, he will be a finalist for enshrinement in the College Football Hall of Fame along with ex-Penn State stars Jeff Hartings and Bobby Engram. He was an All-American in both the 1987 and 1988 seasons, capping a four-year run with the school that ended with him being drafted in the second round of the 1989 NFL Draft.

The Dallas Cowboys originally drafted Wisniewski, but he was traded to the Raiders without ever playing a snap for America’s Team. He would go on to be named to eight Pro Bowls during his time with both the Oakland and Los Angeles Raiders, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest offensive guards in the history of the franchise.

The Wisniewski run at Penn State did not end with Steve, as his nephew Stefen was also a standout player for the Nittany Lions. He won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles just this past season. Steve’s brother Leo was also a member of the Penn State program, but when it comes to the best of the bunch, Steve is definitely the most famous Wisniewski to put on the blue and white.
