Linebacker – Cam Brown

Ok, trivia time.  Without looking, who are Penn State’s starting linebackers so far this season?

I imagine most of you got Koa Farmer, and many of you probably mentioned Jan Johnson.  But, how many of you came up with Cam Brown?  I’m willing venture a guess fewer of you came up with him than Farmer or Johnson.

While there has been a great deal of substituting with the linebackers, according to Audrey Snyder of The Athletic, Cam Brown not only started at outside linebacker, but he also was on the field to start for eight of the 15 series against Kent State ($).  He was even on the field when the Lions were in the nickel package.

Brown currently ranks fourth on the Nittany Lions in tackles (15), second in tackles-for-loss (4), and tied for fourth in sacks (1), yet very little attention is given to the six-foot-five, 223-pound junior out of Burtonsville, MD.

Last week he tied for the team lead with seven tackles and two tackles-for-loss.

He been a steady and reliable player for the Lions.  The last two seasons he has appeared in at least 12 games or more for Penn State, recording 64 tackles over that span.

While five-star phenom, Micah Parsons, has garnered much of the attention at linebacker, Cam Brown has quietly gone about his business and been part of a solid corps of highly-talented Penn State linebackers that is revolutionizing “Linebacker U” in State College.
