It was a big day for some Penn State football players against Kent State.

After another slow start, Penn State football put up a dominant performance in a 63-10 victory over the Kent State Golden Flashes Saturday. The Nittany Lions blew the game open in the second half and were able to get several young players some valuable playing time.

There were still plenty of things to work on heading into Big Ten play, particularly in the passing game, but the win over Kent State was a solid overall performance in all facets of the game.

Check out which Nittany Lions stood out for Penn State in Week 3.

Offense – Trace McSorley, Quarterback

Penn State’s passing attack is still worrisome, but McSorley had a fantastic game against Kent State. He was in full control of the offense and was making the correct reads all day when deciding to run, throw, or hand the ball off.

McSorley was a force running the ball against the Golden flashes, as he totaled 54 yards on nine carries and scored three times. The senior quarterback kept several plays alive by scrambling around and was the clear leader of Penn State’s offense.

Throwing the ball was still a bit of a struggle for Penn State as a whole, as the entire passing game continued to look out-of-sync. McSorley did throw two touchdowns, but had three others called back due to penalties. He completed 11 of 22 passes for 229 yards and threw an interception.

McSorley has had a strong start to the year and put up some good numbers Saturday to continue to build up his Heisman Trophy resume.

Honorable Mention: RB Mark Allen, WR DeAndre Thompkins

Defense – Jayson Oweh, Defensive End

There were a few players on the defensive side who could have received the honor this week, I’m going with true freshman Jayson Oweh. He saw his first action with the Nittany Lions and didn’t waste much time making his presence felt.

He only recorded there total tackles, but two of them were sacks. Oweh showed good speed off the edge and the ability to be a disruptive force in the backfield.

The defensive end was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and was one of the top recruits available from New Jersey. He has a bright future with the Nittany Lions, and Saturday was just a glimpse of what he can do.

Honorable Mention: LB Cam Brown, LB Micah Parsons
