Penn State opens the season Saturday at home against perennial Sun Belt power Appalachian State. Football fans of course recall the Mountaineers’ 2007 monumental upset of Michigan in the Big House.

Could the same thing be in the cards this weekend?

Appalachian State averaged 33.5 points per game last season and they return quite a few players on offense.

Penn State is poised for a potential run at the Big Ten title and possibly the National Championship, but the Nittany Lions will only go as far as Heisman hopeful Trace McSorley can take them.

Saturday will be the first step toward that a spot in the College Football Playoff.  Penn State takes care of their business, but it will be closer than the 24.5-point spread indicates. Give me Appalachian State getting the points.

Penn State – 45
Appalachian State – 23
