Penn State football will be solid at defensive end this season.

Next up in VBR’s Penn State football 2018 player previews is a returning starter who will once again play a key role on the defense. Shareef Miller is entrenched as a starter at defensive end and is once again primed to make a big impact for the Nittany Lions in 2018.

Miller was a member of the 2015 recruiting class and was a three-star recruit from George Washington High School in Philadelphia. He was the No. 27 weak-side defensive end and the 12th-best prospect from Pennsylvania.

Several schools came calling for Miller, including Florida, Miami, Michigan State, and Nebraska. In the end, Miller’s decision came down to Penn State and Florida.

After choosing the Nittany Lions, Miller was redshirted for the 2015 season before getting on the field in 2016.

Miller appeared in 14 games during the 2016 season and was selected a BTN.com All-big Ten Freshman Team honorable mention. He recorded 22 tackles, including five for a loss.

Thanks to his performance in 2016, Miller earned a starting spot at defensive end last season. He played in all 13 games and made 12 starts. He finished the year with 37 total tackles. He was named this team All-Big Ten and turned into a reliable source of production for defensive line coach Sean Spencer.

With two years of experience under his belt, Miller is expected to be a big part of the defensive line. His ability to get into the backfield and break up plays wlil present a problem for the opponents.

Miller has certainly lived up to the hype that followed him to Happy Valley out of high school. He iscertainly one to watch this year and should be a big reason for the success of Penn State’s defense.
