Penn State Football Recruiting Roundup: Commitments galore, upcoming announcements
It’s been a very productive few days for Penn State football recruiting
Remember the slow start that Penn State football recruiting got off to for the 2019 cycle? Well, while it may have seemed a bit concerning at first, it shouldn’t have been. Head coach James Franklin has a great recruiting reputation, and it appears that he absolutely knew what he was doing.
The slow start to the 2019 cycle means nothing now.
With a busy spring, particularly the month of May, the Nittany Lions are right back into the thick of things with recruiting and have already landed commitments from some of the top talent available.
When the recruiting cards started to fall, they fell fast. Since May 18, the Nittany Lions have picked up five total commitments.
Three-star safety Jaquan Brisker got the ball rolling just after midnight on May 18 when he committed to Penn State. The junior college transfer will have two seasons of eligibility by the time he gets to Happy Valley.
Following Brisker’s commitment, the 2019 class got a major boost when four-star running back Devyn Ford made the call for the Nittany Lions. Ford is considered one of the best running backs available and has the potential to be an elite talent at the collegiate level.
Sunday brought the commitment of four-star athlete Marquis Wilson. Wilson’s announcement wasn’t previously scheduled, so it came as a bit surprise at the time.
As if landing three recruits on the weekend wasn’t good enough, the new week began with a bang. Five-star linebacker Brandon Smith, a top recruit at his position, and four-star defensive back Tyler Rudolph both committed to the Nittany Lions.
With the five recent commitments, Penn State jumped to No. 14 in the 247 Sports Composite Team Rankings.
The commitments are not over yet. Look for Penn State to pick up some more verbals over the summer.
Four-star athlete Cam’Ron Kelly has an announcement date of June 8. A week later, four-star defensive end Hakeem Bemoan will make his choice. Kelly appears to be headed for the Nittany Lions, while Beamon is a heavy Virgina Tech lean. However, it wouldn’t be a stretch to see Beamon commit to the Nittany Lions.
Next: What can Trace McSorley do in year three?
Of course, there could be many more announcements pop up throughout the summer. By the time it’s all said and done, don’t be surprised if the Nittany Lions are near the top of the team rankings.
