Penn State football recruiting landed two targets within a day, and more will follow shortly

After an unusually slow start to the 2019 cycle, things have finally started to heat up for Penn State football recruiting. Head coach James Franklin has proven to be a master recruiter since arriving in Happy Valley, and one had to think that it was only a matter of time before Franklin got the ball rolling for the most recent cycle.

With several of Penn State’s targets setting commitment dates for the coming days and weeks, there’s a chance for the Nittany Lions to jump up in the team recruiting rankings.

That jump began Thursday night and continued into Friday.

Junior College transfer Jaquan Brisker committed to the Nittany Lions on Thursday evening. The defensive back played his high school football at Gateway High School in Monroeville, PA and then started his collegiate career at Lackawanna Community College in Scranton.

Brisker was rated as the top junior college safety and the No. 9 overall player at that level.

In his first season at Lackawanna he made 54 total tackles with four interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns. After he plays at junior college this year he’ll have two years of eligibility remaining when he joins the Nittany Lions.

Following Brisker’s commitment, the Nittany Lions added an elite prospect on Friday afternoon.

Four-star running back Devyn Ford chose Penn State over the likes of Clemson and Virginia Tech. Ford is one of the best available running backs and was sought after by the top schools in the nation.

Once he arrives in Happy Valley, he’ll join fellow top running back recruits, Miles Sanders and Ricky Slade.

With the commitments of Brisker and Ford, the Nittany Lions are finally off to a good start for 2019 recruiting. Even better for Penn State — the commitments don’t appear to be finished.

Four-star linebacker Brandon Smith and four-star defensive back Tyler Rudolph will both be making their announcements on Monday, May 21, and both players are expected to choose the Nittany Lions.

Cam’Ron Kelly, another four-star defensive back, has the Nittany Lions as his top choice and is set to make his announcement on June 8.

By the time recruiting is done for the 2019 class, don’t be surprised if Franklin has the Nittany Lions up near the top of the best classes in the nation.
