Welcome back to the weekly look at all things Penn State football recruiting here at Victory Bell Rings – the recruiting roundup

Springtime continues to be a busy time in the world of Penn State football recruiting.

With spring practice in full swing, and so are visits from high school recruits looking to check out one of the Nittany Lions’ spring practices. On top of visitors flooding campus, James Franklin and his staff extended a notable new contract extension this week and the Nittany Lions have also made the top group for a big time wide receiver.

With all of that said, let’s begin this week’s Penn State football recruiting roundup.

Weekend visitors

Despite the Easter holiday, the past week has been a busy one for visitors in Happy Valley.

Two of the biggest visitors came on Monday when a pair of five-star players from the class of 2020 visited campus. These two players were the top wide receiver in the 2020 recruiting class and the top offensive tackle in the class – Julian Fleming and Paris Johnson Jr.

While Penn State still has work to do with Johnson, this visit was a big one for the Nittany Lions as it made them legit contenders for Johnson. As for Fleming, the Nittany Lions entered the visit as the team to beat for the number two ranked player in the country in the 2020 recruiting class and that certainly has not changed. Additionally, Fleming will return for the Blue White Game on April 21st.

Prior to Fleming and Johnson Jr. coming to town, one of Penn State’s top 2019 targets was on campus on Friday in the form of linebacker Andre White. This marked the second consecutive weekend that the Harrisburg High product was in Happy Valley. White committing to Penn State certainly appears to be more of a question of when than if.

On Wednesday, the Nittany Lions hosted a trio of four-star class of 2020 recruits from the state of New Jersey. These three players were defensive end Fadel Diggs, athlete Jalen Berger, and safety Jordan Morant. During the visit, Diggs was offered by the Nittany Lions.

Prior to these visits, the Nittany Lions were in a great spot for both Berger and Morant. In fact, a strong argument could be made that Penn State is the early leader for both. With an offer now having been extended, the Nittany Lions should be a big player in the recruitment of Diggs as well.

Penn State makes the cut

Four-star Georgia wide receiver Ramel Keyton released his top-6 this week, and it included the Nittany Lions.

The other five schools in Keyton’s top group are Auburn, Miami, Ohio State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. Keyton was offered by Penn State on February 15th but has not yet visited campus. If he makes it to campus, the Nittany Lions should be firmly in the mix here.

Penn State even making Keyton’s top group is another sign of Penn State’s national brand once again becoming that of a national powerhouse.
