Welcome back to the weekly look at all things Penn State football recruiting here at Victory Bell Rings – the recruiting roundup

Spring football has begun in Happy Valley. With that, things are about to get very busy once again in the world of Penn State football recruiting.

With the start of spring practices this past week the Nittany Lions hosted visitors on campus for the first time in a few weeks. Additionally, the coaching staff continues to give out new offers in the 2019, 2020, and 2021 recruiting cycles.

Visitors to campus and new offers are not the only news to delve into this week. So, let’s begin this week’s Penn State football recruiting roundup.

Visitors to campus

Earlier this week, the Nittany Lions hosted a contingent of visitors from Christ The King School in New York. The most notable of these players is 3-star class of 2019 defensive tackle Jared Harrison-Hunte. During his visit, Harrison-Hunte picked up an offer from the Nittany Lions.

In recent weeks Harrison-Hunte has started to blow up on the recruiting trail. Along with the Nittany Lions, LSU and Texas A&M have offered recently as well. If Penn State pushes for Harrison-Hunte, they will be tough to beat.

Penn State also hosted a group of visitors from the state of Ohio earlier this week. This group was highlighted top-100 class of 2020 defensive lineman Darrion Henry, as well as class of 2020 linebacker Jaheim Thomas.

While Ohio State will be tough to beat for Henry, the Nittany Lions will be a major factor in his recruitment until it ends. They will also be big players for Thomas. Elite class of 2021 lineman Damon Payne was also on campus and earned an offer from the Nittany Lions during the visit. Florida State, Georgia, and Iowa are among the other schools that have already offered Payne.

Nittany Lions make the cut

4-star class of 2019 defensive tackle Rashad Cheney has released his top group and it includes the Nittany Lions. The other schools in Cheney’s top group are Alabama, Florida, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Miami, and Minnesota.

Penn State should get a visit from Cheney some time this spring/summer. Assuming that happens, Penn State appears to have as good a shot as anyone at landing the talented Georgia native.

A pair of targets set commitment plans

4-star defensive backs Marquis Wilson and Tyler Rudolph are two of Penn State’s top class of 2019 targets. And both now have a plan in mind for their commitments.

Wilson recently Tweeted that he will commit this summer, while Rudolph told Land of 10’s Tyler Donohue that he will commit in June. Right now the Nittany Lions are the team to beat for each of these talented defensive backs, both will visit for the Blue White Game, and it would be a stunner if either wound up anywhere other than Penn State.

Next: No. 1 player to watch this spring - Micah Parsons

That will do it for this week. As always, stay tuned here at Victory Bell Rings for all of the latest news in the world of Penn State football recruiting.
