Penn State Football Recruiting: New offers, Nittany Lions make 4-star’s top group
By Marty Leap
Welcome back to the weekly look at all things Penn State football recruiting here at Victory Bell Rings – the recruiting roundup
While things never grind to a halt in the world of Penn State football recruiting, things are currently very slow on the recruiting trail.
The Nittany Lions just finished up their winter workouts and spring break. Additionally, the coaches have been on vacation. However, with spring practice less than a week away the action is about to pick back up in the world of Penn State’s football recruiting.
Even though the news has been slow lately, there is still news to discuss. And we will dive into that with this week’s recruiting roundup.
New offers
James Franklin and his staff continue to pepper the nation with new offers. In the past week, class of 2019 defensive back Jalen Perry and defensive end Cameron Williams have both received offers.
Perry is currently committed to Georgia while Williams is a Miami commit. In addition to being a Miami commit, Williams is an ex-Florida commit where he was recruited by new Penn State running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider. If the Nittany Lions can get Williams in Happy Valley for a visit they could become legit contenders in his recruitment.
Additionally, in the class of 2020, defensive tackle Dominic Bailey and linebacker Antoine Sampah.
In addition to Penn State, Bailey was recently offered by Georgia. Look for him to be one of Penn State’s top defensive tackle targets for 2020. As for Sampah, he is the top rated linebacker in the 2020 recruiting cycle and the Nittany Lions should be a top contender for the Virginia native.
The Nittany Lions also offered JUCO offensive tackle Anthony Whigan. The Lackawanna Community College product also holds offers from Lousiville, Maryland, and Nebraska, among others. If the Nittany Lions push for Whigan, they will be tough to beat.
Penn State makes the cut
4-star tight end Jahleel Billingsley has released a top-7. This top-7 includes the Nittany Lions. Joining the Nittany Lions in his top group are Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio State, Ole Miss, and TCU.
Right now Billingsley’s recruitment appears to be a two horse race between Penn State and Ohio State. Prior to the Buckeyes offering last week, the Nittany Lions led for Billingsley. This is shaping up to be another battle between James Franklin and Urban Meyer on the recruiting trail.
Next: Player to watch this spring: Damion Barber
That will do it for this week. As always, stay tuned here at Victory Bell Rings for all of the latest news in the world of Penn State football recruiting.
