Welcome back to the weekly look at all things Penn State football recruiting here at Victory Bell Rings – the recruiting roundup

Big target on campus

On Monday, the Nittany Lions hosted one of their top class of 2019 targets on campus. This player was top-100 offensive lineman Xavier Truss.

This was the first time Truss had been on campus since picking up an offer from the Nittany Lions in January. He had last visited campus back in November.

Getting Truss back on campus was huge for the Nittany Lions. Since being offered by Penn State in January Truss has seen his recruitment blow up. Truss visited Penn State on his way home from a southern swing that saw him visit multiple schools down south such as Alabama, Auburn, and Clemson.

Right now, the Nittany Lions appear to be the leader for Xavier Truss. While this recruitment will not be an easy one, they are in a very good spot so far. Look for Truss to return to campus again later this spring.

New offers

As Penn State continues to look to expand its recruiting footprint, the Nittany Lions continue to pepper the south with offers. One such offer this week went to Georgia linebacker Allen Smith, while another went to Florida defensive end Lloyd Summerall.

These offers come as Penn State continues to put a new, added emphasis on recruiting in the south. Especially since Ja’Juan Seider joined the staff as the team’s new running backs coach. As always with these offers, the next step is to try and get these players on campus. If that happens then it is game on.

Top target on the move

One of Penn State’s top targets has made a move that will impact his recruitment greatly. Top-100 safety Lewis Cine has moved from Massachusetts to Texas. With this move, his recruitment just became much more of a war.

Prior to the move, Penn State was the team to beat for Cine. In fact, he even called them his leaders on multiple occasions. This probably does not change with him moving to the Lone Star State. However, winning the recruitment will now be much more difficult.

Luckily for the Nittany Lions, Cine’s family is not moving so he may have a desire to play college football closer to home. It is vital that the Nittany Lions get him back on campus for a visit this spring.
