Penn State football’s all-time leading receiver DaeSean Hamilton continues climbing up draft boards. After a couple all-star games, he made quite a jump.

DaeSean Hamilton opened scout’s eyes with some impressive reps at the East-West Shrine Game and the Senior Bowl. Prior to the all-star games, the Penn State football star wide out sat around the fourth and fifth round on some draft boards, but he’s jumping up the boards now. The NFL Draft

Hamilton who is wearing No. 5 in the video below showed off a couple of things in the video. On the out route at the 47 second mark, he flashed incredible footwork and explosiveness out of breaks. The four-year starter shakes loose the defensive back and makes himself an easy open target for the quarterback to throw to.

Beyond his speed, his route running is pristine. A few plays after he runs the out route, he torches the defensive back on a slant pattern. Yes, the defensive back is playing well off the line of scrimmage, but either way, he made a simple slant into a gimme throw for his quarterback. In today’s spread-it-out, high-flying offenses, he’ll be the perfect slot wide out in the league (Video Courtesy of Football Gameplan).

In addition to great practices like that, he then transitioned those skills into a similar week at the Senior Bowl. Hamilton’s great couple weeks has improved his overall ranking on CBS Sports position rankings from 125 to 94 just in the span of a few weeks. A month away from the combine, he’s in great position to keep rising.

The big things scouts want to see from him at the combine is his strength top-end speed. Hamilton carries a consistent speed that, but he doesn’t typically burn corners. During the 2017-2018 season, he proved he could go get the ball and get off the line quickly, but there wasn’t that burst that makes him a scary deep threat.

If he adds some speed and a little more muscle to his frame, he’ll have a strong chance to jump into the top three rounds. His production and experience is there. Something that goes unnoticed but is vital to succeed at the next level.
