Penn State basketball will have revenge on its mind when Maryland comes to town

College football has the stage throughout the day Wednesday thanks to National Signing Day, but it will be time for hoops come evening. The Penn State Nittany Lions host an important rematch against Big Ten foe Maryland.

Both teams enter the meeting with identical overall records of 16-9. Penn State has a game up on the Terps in the Big Ten with a conference record of 6-6.

The Nittany Lions have won two of their last three games, including an 82-58 thrashing of Iowa on Saturday. They lost to Michigan State after a win over Rutgers. Maryland Knocked off Wisconsin on Super Sunday, but lost the two games prior to that against Purdue and Michigan State.

Penn State and Maryland met in College Park on January 2.

The Terps used a big second half to pull out the 75-69 victory. Guard Anthony Cowan and forward Bruno Fernando both had a big game for Maryland. Cowan finished with 18 points, while Fernando pulled down 11 rebounds.

Mike Watkins had a monster game for Penn State, recording a double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds. Star guard Tony Carr poured in 16 points. Unfortunately for the Nittany Lions the bench managed just nine points.

This time around the Nittany Lions will need to keep Cowan in check. Also, Maryland sharpshooter Kevin Hurter can be dangerous from behind the arc if given space.

Penn State has been plagued by inconsistent play all season long, but a strong finish could propel the team to a postseason berth. The Nittany Lions are favored in Wednesday’s matchup with the Terps, so taking care of business is a must for head coach Patrick Chambers and company.

Tip-off between the Nittany Lions and Terrapins is set for 6:30 p.m. The game will be shown live on the Big Ten Network.
