Welcome to our look at all things Penn State football recruiting here at Victory Bell Rings – the recruiting roundup

This past weekend was a big one for Penn State football recruiting. The Nittany Lions hosted over 30 class of 2019, 2020, and 2021 recruits for their junior day event. Additionally, new offers have been handed out by the coaching staff.

Furthermore, Wednesday is the traditional February National Signing Day. Wednesday is shaping up to be a busy one for the Nittany Lions as their top two remaining class of 2018 targets will announce their college choices on Wednesday.

Due to Wednesday being signing day, there will be a second recruiting roundup later in the week to break down the festivities and to put a bow on Penn State’s elite 2018 recruiting class. With all of that said, let’s begin this week’s Penn State football recruiting roundup.

Junior day recap

As was mentioned above, this past weekend was a busy one in the world of Penn State football recruiting. The Nittany Lions hosted some of their top targets in the 2019, 2020, and 2021 recruiting classes. Some of the notable visitors can be seen below.

Class of 2019
LB Andre White
OL Caedan Wallace
WR David Bell
DT Elijah Wroten
TE Jahleel Billingsley
OL Jakai Moore
WR John Metchie
DB Keaton Ellis

DB Tyler Rudolph

Following this past weekend the Nittany Lions are in the top group of each of these players, if not the team to beat. Of the 13 players that were on campus this weekend, I would bet on at least 70 percent of them being in Penn State’s 2019 recruiting class.

Class of 2020
DT Cole Brevard
DB Enzo Jennings
RB Jalen Berger
DB Jordan Morant
RB Marshawn Lloyd

During his visit, Cole Brevard picked up an offer from Penn State. The Indiana native was also offered by Ohio State on Saturday. Like Brevard, Jordan Morant was also offered by the Nittany Lions on Saturday.

Jalen Berger, along with Marshawn Lloyd, is one of the best running back recruits in the 2020 cycle. Mix in the Nittany Lions also being the early leaders for Chris Tyree and their 2020 running back class could be the best in the FBS for the 2020 recruiting cycle.

Class of 2021
RB Evan Pryor
DB Derrick Davis
OL Landon Tengwall

Derrick Davis is a Pittsburgh native and shaping up to be one of the best players in the country in the 2021 recruiting cycle. Penn State has already gotten him on campus multiple times and is in a great spot extremely early on in his recruitment.

During his visit, Landon Tengwall picked up an offer from the Nittany Lions. Following the visit, Tengwall told Brian Dohn of 247 Sports that Penn State is his dream school and current leader.

This past weekend will be looked back upon as one that laid the groundwork for future commitments for the Nittany Lions.

National Signing Day on Wednesday

Currently, Penn State’s 2018 recruiting class is the fourth best in the country according to 247 Sports and has 23 commitments. 22 of these 23 commitments signed their letters of intent during the early signing period in December. The lone unsigned player is three-star Harrisburg athlete Shaquon Anderson-Butts and it remains to be seen if he will sign with Penn State on Wednesday or not.

On Wednesday, top-100 offensive lineman Rasheed Walker and four-star wide receiver Solomon Enis will announce their commitments, as well as sign their letters of intent, on Wednesday.

Penn State has led throughout Walker’s recruitment, and it appears they are going to win out over their arch nemesis Ohio State Buckeyes. According to Andrew Lind of 11 Warriors, he is hearing the Nittany Lions will win out in Walker’s recruitment.

As for Enis, the legacy wide receiver recruit will choose between Penn State and Utah. For months now the Nittany Lions have been the team to beat for Enis, however, rather or not they would have space for him has always been a question.

As his Wednesday decision approaches, it is still very unclear where Enis will sign. While he may still prefer the Nittany Lions, there appear to be some other factors pushing him toward Utah. This will be another story to watch unfold on National Signing Day.

That will do it for today. As always, stay tuned here at Victory Bell Rings for all of the latest news in the world of Penn State football recruiting. Additionally, check back later this week for an additional roundup breaking down Wednesday’s signing day festivities.
