Candidates to be Penn State football’s new offensive coordinator
By Marty Leap
Oklahoma State offensive coordinator/quarterback coach Mike Yurcich
Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State Cowboys run an offense very similar to that of Joe Moorhead. Therefore, Mike Yurcich is a name that makes sense. Especially since he could also replace Moorhead as a quarterback coach.
Additionally, Yurcich interviewed for the Penn State offensive coordinator position when Moorhead got the job in the winter of 2015 and nearly walked away with the job. Yurcich also has Pennsylvania ties as he is an Edinboro grad, who has coached at Shippensburg, as well as his alma mater.
Mike Yurcich has been Oklahoma State’s offensive coordinator since 2013, and has quickly become one of the best offensive coordinators in the FBS.
In 2016
Yurcich was a finalist for the Broyles Award which is given to the nation’s top assistant coach each season. Entering the 2017 season, the Cowboys’ offense had averaged 36.2 points and over 450 yards per game under Yurcich’s leadership. This season, they are averaging over 500 yards per game and their 46.3 points per game is second in the FBS.
Mike Yurcich is a great coach, has Pennsylvania ties, and has been linked to the Penn State offensive coordinator position in the past. He is a name to keep an eye on in the coming days.
