Coaching

A clean sweep. James Franklin, as I mentioned last week kept this team focused. He never allowed the Penn State football team’s confidence to shake. In fact, the team rallied back into focus and rolled. That’s easier said than done. A win is a win and sometimes expectations ignore quality performances against bad teams.

Joe Moorhead’s suitors are going to come from far and wide to try to pull him from State College. He showed all season what kind of dynamic, multiple offense he can produce. Penn State football used all its weapons against Maryland racking up nearly 600 yards of offense. Moorhead deserves much of that credit using secret weapon Tommy Stevens to pile up big plays in the run game.

Ever-underappreciated, Brent Pry’s defense forced two turnovers and lived in the backfield. Maryland’s running game never truly threatened the Nittany Lions. Penn State football held them to just 124 yards on the ground, and the defensive line racked up four sacks as well. Entering bowl season, there’s a chance for Penn State to come away with a big-time bowl win.

Grade: A+
