Welcome back to the weekly look at all things Penn State football recruiting here at Victory Bell Rings – the recruiting roundup.

For James Franklin and his coaching staff things rarely every slow down on the recruiting trail. That is especially true right now as things are starting to heat up once again in the world of Penn State football recruiting.

This past weekend was the Nittany Lions’ final home game of the 2017 season. Due to this, it was a big recruiting weekend in Happy Valley. This past weekend should play a large role in both filling out the rest of Penn State’s 2018 recruiting class, as well as continuing to lay the building blocks of their 2019 recruiting class.

Official visitors for the Nebraska game

A pair of official visitors were in town to watch the 10th ranked Nittany Lions defeat Nebraska 56-44. These two visitors were four-star defensive end Jayson Oweh and four-star wide receiver Solomon Enis.

Right now, Oweh is one of the Nittany Lions’ top three remaining targets for the 2018 recruiting class along with fellow defensive ends Micah Parsons and Tyreke Smith. Entering the weekend the Nittany Lions were the team to beat for both Parsons and Smith, they are also now out in front for Oweh.

According to Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports, the Nittany Lions have separated themselves from the pack in Oweh’s recruitment. This has long been a battle between Penn State and Ohio State, this made the Nittany Lions getting their official visit after the Buckeyes already got theirs huge.

More from Victory Bell Rings

This upcoming weekend Oweh will officially visit Michigan, he will then take an official visit to Notre Dame in November. It would take Oweh being absolutely blown away on one of these two visits for him to end up anywhere other than Columbus or State College and right now things seem to be trending in the right direction for the Nittany Lions.

Jayson Oweh plans to announce his college decision at the Under Armor All-American Game on January 4.

As for Solomon Enis, all signs point toward Penn State being the four-star legacy recruit’s top school. However, for now at least, it appears the Nittany Lions do not have room for Enis. Unless the Nittany Lions miss out on at least one of the three defensive ends mentioned above it is tough to see them having room for Enis in this class. It is also possible, if not likely, that Enis is behind offensive tackle Rasheed Walker on their board as well.

If the Nittany Lions push for Enis, I fully expect him to follow in his dad’s footsteps to Happy Valley.

Unofficial visitors this past weekend

On top of the two official visitors, Penn State also hosted a slew of unofficial visitors in the 2018, 2019, and 2020 recruiting classes.

For starters, the class of 2018 was well represented. Aeneas Hawkins, Bryce Effner, PJ Mustipher, and Zack Kuntz were all in town. Both class of 2019 commits, Keaton Ellis and TaQuan Roberson, joined this group on unofficial visits.

Joining the commits in town were class of 2019 wide receiver John Metchie, offensive lineman Trevor Keegan, and linebacker Luke Fulton. Class of 2020 wide receiver Julian Fleming and athlete Jalen Berger were also in town.

This visit was Metchie’s third this season and the Nittany Lions are easily the team to beat for the Candian import. Trevor Keegan previously visited Penn State in the spring, but this was his first time attending a game at Beaver Stadium. Penn State is firmly in the mix for the top-200 offensive tackle. This was also Luke Fulton’s first visit to Beaver Stadium.

As for the 2020 duo, this was Julian Fleming’s second trip to a Penn State game this fall. The Southern Columbia product is one of the top-five players in the country in the 2020 recruiting class and the Nittany Lions will be almost impossible to beat here. Jalen Berger is a top-100 player for 2020 and the Nittany Lions are in a very good spot early on.

Two new offers handed out

During their visits on Saturday, a pair of 2019 players were extended scholarship offers from the Nittany Lions. These players were defensive back Tyler Rudolph and offensive lineman Zeke Correll.

Rudolph visited Penn State twice over the summer, camped for the coaching staff, and impressed them. As for Correll, this was his first visit to Penn State and the Nittany Lions joined Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Wisconsin, among others, as programs that have offered Correll.
