Penn State football will look for its 10th win of the season in the regular season finale at Maryland this weekend.

A few short weeks ago Penn State was in the driver’s seat for a spot in the College Football Playoff. However, two tough losses on the road essentially ended those chances. But, with two straight wins following the defeats, the Nittany Lions are on their way to a berth in a New Year’s Six bowl. A win in the regular season finale this weekend would all but secure that prestigious bowl bid.

Penn State finishes its regular season with a battle in College Park against the Maryland Terrapins.

The Nittany Lions are coming off a 56-44 home win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Penn State’s offense really got on track last week against the Cornhuskers — racking up 609 total yards.

Quarterback Trace McSorley threw for 325 yards and a touchdown. He also accounted for 46 yards and a score on the ground. Star running back Saquon Barkley broke out of his slump in a big way. He rushed for 158 yards and scored three touchdowns. He continued to be a dangerous weapon in the passing attack by grabbing six receptions for 66 yards.

With the win over Nebraska the Nittany Lions have an opportunity for their second consecutive 10-win regular season. The odds of picking up that win appear to be in the Nittany Lions favor, as they are 37-2-1 all-time against the Terrapins.

Before Maryland’s win in 2014, the Terrapins had not beaten the Nittany Lions since 1961.

Maryland enters this week’s contest 4-7 overall and 2-6 in the Big Ten Conference. The Terps are in the middle of a three-game losing streak and have lost six of their last seven.

There was some hope in College Park after the Terrapins opened the season with an impressive road win over Texas. However, injuries doomed the Terps and they now rank near the bottom of the conference in both total defense and total offense.

Kickoff between the Terps and the Nittany Lions is set for 3:30 on Saturday. The game will air live on the Big Ten Network.
