Will Penn State finally get the monkey off its back when it comes to beating Nebraska?

Believe it or not, the end of Penn State’s home schedule is upon this week. The Nittany Lions play host to the Nebraska Cornhuskers this weekend in the Beaver Stadium finale for 2017. The two schools last met in an overtime thriller that was won by Nebraska in 2013.

Nebraska has been a thorn for the Nittany Lions, having won the last four meetings. Penn State hasn’t defeated the Cornhuskers since the 40-7 trouncing in Happy Valley during the 2002 season.

A few short weeks ago it looked as if Penn State was sitting pretty for a spot in the College Football Playoff. The Nittany Lions dominated Michigan in the annual Whiteout and moved up to No. 2 in the country. Unfortunately, the championship hopes were derailed by crushing losses in Columbus and East Lansing.

Fortunately, the Nittany Lions bounced back last week with a 35-6 win over Rutgers. Now, ranked No. 10, Penn State has the opportunity to secure a spot in the New Year’s Six bowl with wins in the final two games of the season.

Penn State returned a lot of talent on both sides of the ball this season, and despite some hiccups along the way, has put up very solid numbers. The NIttany Lions rank second in the Big Ten in both scoring offense and scoring defense.

Nebraska, on the other hand, has really struggled this season. The Cornhuskers have won a total of just four games this year and have lost four of their last five.

This one looks like a favorable matchup for the Nittany Lions on paper, but as we all know to well, anything can happen in college football. The VBR staff turned things around last week as far as predictions and will look to do the same this week.
