Welcome back to the weekly look at all things Penn State football recruiting here at Victory Bell Rings – the recruiting roundup.

The regular season is winding down in college football, however, recruiting never slows down. This means it is as busy a time as ever in the world of Penn State football recruiting.

With the 2017 Beaver Stadium finale on tap, James Franklin and company are preparing for their final recruiting weekend of the season. The 10th ranked Nittany Lions also are coming a 35-6 home victory over Rutgers in front of a small group of recruits. Penn State has also extended an offer to a highly sought after 2019 linebacker.

With all of that said, let’s begin this week’s Penn State football recruiting roundup. Shall we?

Visitors this weekend

When Penn State hosts Nebraska for their 2017 home finale on Saturday they will have a pair of key official visitors in town. These two visitors are four-star defensive end Jayson Oweh and four-star wide receiver Solomon Enis.

Oweh is a top-100 level talent. Right now, his recruitment is neck-and-neck between Ohio State and Penn State. Michigan is also looming as he has an official visit to Ann Arbor scheduled for next weekend.

More from Victory Bell Rings

Throughout his recruitment Oweh has been a very impressionable player. This could favor the Nittany Lions in a big way since he has already taken an official visit to Ohio State. This weekend is a great opportunity for Penn State to become Oweh’s leader.

While the Nittany Lions do not have much room remaining in their 2018 recruiting class, they would accept a commitment from Oweh in a heartbeat. Oweh is currently slated to announce his commitment at the Under Armor All-American Game on January 4. However, it is possible the staffs recruiting him know his intentions before then.

As for Solomon Enis, it is a bit of a different story. He is the son of Penn State legend Curtis Enis and the Nittany Lions would love to add another receiver in this recruiting class. However, it is unlikely that Enis is a take right now.

With space being tight in Penn State’s 2018 recruiting class the Nittany Lions remain focused on Oweh, Micah Parsons, Tyreke Smith, and Rasheed Walker. I am of the belief that Penn State is the school to beat for Enis and that if he has the opportunity to do so he will join this recruiting class.

Luckily for the Nittany Lions, Enis will not be signing during the early sign period in December but instead he will do so in February. If there is still room in Penn State’s 2018 recruiting class when the staff is able to reset the board after the start of the New Year when Oweh, Parsons, and Smith have all announced their college decisions look for the staff to push heavily for Enis.

Visitors last weekend

This past weekend the Nittany Lions hosted a small group of visitors for their 35-6 victory over Rutgers. This group was headlined by a pair of class of 2018 commits in four-star wide receiver Daniel George and four-star tight end Zack Kuntz.

As for un-committed visitors, the group was mostly potential walk-on players. A noon kick, in 20-degree weather, against Rutgers is not exactly an appealing game to recruits. This is a big reason why the staff did not put much emphasis on recruiting this past weekend.

As for the class of 2019, four-star running back Jaren Mangham was in town. Mangham attends powerhouse Cass Tech High School in Detroit. Class of 2020 wide receiver Mike Wyman and class of 2021 offensive lineman Landon Tengwell are names worth getting to know as well.

There was also class of 2020 athlete Raekwon Smith. The Stanten Island product is the son of rapper Method Man, and that makes me feel old.

A new 2019 offer goes out

Last week, James Franklin and his staff extended an offer to three-star class of 2019 linebacker Lance Dixon.

Dixon is a native of West Bloomfield, Michigan, and also holds offers from N.C. State, Michigan State, and Iowa, among others. Dixon camped for the Penn State staff over the summer and visited Happy Valley for the Nittany Lions’ 42-13 beatdown of Michigan last month. With the offer, the Nittany Lions are now firmly in the mix for Dixon and his name is one to remember for 2019.
