Week 12 of high school football season is in the books. So, here is VBR’s weekly look at how Penn State football commits performed over the weekend.

Throughout the 2017 football season I will take a look at how Penn State football commits perform in their high school football games each week. Even though high school football season is starting to wind down across the country, there is still plenty to talk about after this past weekend.

We will start with this past weekend’s top performer – running back Ricky Slade.

Slade’s senior season has been a special one and that continued on Friday night. Led by Slade, the Hylton Bulldogs improved to 8-3 on the season with a 47-13 victory over Hayfield in the first round of the playoffs.

Ricky Slade went for over 100 yards rushing and scored five touchdowns on Friday night. Slade now has 2,382 all-purpose yards and 34 total touchdowns this season. To be honest, it is a travesty that Slade is not a five-star recruit. When players are re-evaluated at the end of high school football season, do not be surprised if Slade picks up his fifth star.

Due to Saquon Barkley, Miles Sanders, and now Slade, few programs have recruited running back as well as Penn State has in recent years. While Barkley will be playing on Sundays next season, Sanders and Slade should create a two-headed monster that keeps running back a position of strength for Penn State.

Also in the Commonwealth of Virginia, offensive tackle Nana Asiedu and the North Stafford Wolverines were also victorious in playoff action. Following a 31-0 victory over Mountain View, Asiedu and the Wolverines improved to 8-3 on the season. Next up is a showdown with 9-2 Brooke Point next Friday.

Back in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, linebacker Charlie Katshir and the Cumberland Valley Eagles blasted Central Dauphin East 62-9 in the first round of the District 3 Class 6A playoffs. With the win, the Eagles are now 9-2 this season. Katshir had a big game recording 119 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also intercepting two passes.

Juice Scruggs and Cathedral Prep blasted USO out of Pittsburgh 56-0 to improve to 11-0 on the season. Meanwhile, also in Erie, linebacker Jesse Luketa and the Mercyhurst Prep Lakers watched their season come to an end via upset at the hands of the Sharon Tigers by a score of 21-14.

Luketa finished his senior campaign with 80 tackles, three interceptions, four sacks, and three forced fumbles.

The Harrisburg Cougars improved to 10-0 on the season with a 46-14 victory over Exeter Township. Shaquon Anderson-Butts caught a pair of touchdowns in the Cougar victory.

Linebacker commit Nick Tarburton and the Pennridge Rams improved to 10-2 on the season by recording their second consecutive shutout in a 25-0 victory over Perkiomen. Tarburton had 28 yards rushing, he caught one pass which was a seven-yard touchdown, he had 11 tackles, and he forced a fumble.

Deep in the heart of Texas, Trent Gordon and the Manvel Mavericks defeated Galena Park 69-7 to improve to 9-0 on the season. Gordon had two tackles in the game. Safety Isaiah Humphries and the Sachse Mustangs improved to 10-0 on the season with a 51-7 victory over South Garland.

Cornerback Jordan Miner helped lead the Wiregrass Ranch Bulls (FL) to a 17-10 playoff victory over Lake Nona High School. In the game Miner rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown, while also intercepting a pair of passes and recording two pass breakups.

Also in Florida playoff action, Judge Culpepper and the Plant Panthers defeated East River 43-0. The future Nittany Lions defensive tackle helped the Panther defense pitch a shutout. Culpepper had four tackles, including a tackle for a loss.

Maryland four-star wide receiver Daniel George helped the Oxon Hill Clippers improve to 7-4 on the season. In the Clippers’ 28-26 playoff victory over Chopticon, George had 162 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. This included catching the game winning score in the waning seconds.

The South Brunswick Vikings and five-star wide receiver Justin Shorter started their treck through the New Jersey playoffs on Friday night with a 42-7 victory over Hillsborough. Shorter caught just one pass, but did rush for a touchdown.

The Vikings will play Old Bridge in the next round of the playoffs this Friday, while class of 2019 quarterback TaQuan Roberson and the DePaul Catholic Spartans will start playoff play on Friday night.

Kicker Jake Pinegar and Ankeny Centennial’s (IA) season came to after a 44-7 playoff loss. Pinegar was successful on his lone PAT attempt of the night. In Connecticut, quarterback Will Levis and the Xavier Falcons were defeated 45-7 by West Haven to fall to 4-5 on the season. In the game, Levis was intercepted twice. The Muskegon Big Red (MI) and offensive tackle AJ Reed improved to 12-0 on the season with a 55-20 victroy over Zeeland West to advance to the next round of the playoffs.
