Penn State Football: 2017 position grades vs Ohio State
Secondary
If you would’ve told me the secondary would’ve been the downfall for Penn State football Saturday, I would’ve laughed. This unit has dominated all offenses… until Ohio State. Barrett sat in the pocket and did whatever he wanted with the secondary. Penn State football failed to answer at every turn. When it mattered most in the fourth quarter, they allowed a perfect game from the OSU signal caller.
Marcus Allen led both teams with 10 tackles and Troy Apke followed closely behind with eight tackles. With two safeties near the top of the tackling list, it’s easy to see why the defense struggled. Those two shouldn’t have to make that many tackles behind the defense.
Grant Haley, Amani Oruwariye and Christian Campbell looked lost for the first time this year. To be fair, the defensive line didn’t help them and J.T. Barrett threw dimes all game. At the end of the day though, this unit didn’t get the job done. This is the first time fans wished John Reid was healthy and ready to go.
