Week eight of high school football season is in the books. So, here is VBR’s weekly look at how Penn State football commits performed over the weekend.

Throughout the 2017 football season I will take a look at how Penn State football commits perform in their high school football games each week. With high school football now in full swing across the country, there is plenty to talk about after this past weekend.

We will start with this week’s top performer – wide receiver Daniel George.

In a 28-14 Oxon Hill victory, George had 33 yards receiving and a touchdown. He also rushed for 121 yards and a pair of scores.

Also in the DMV, the Hylton Bulldogs (VA) led by Ricky Slade improved to 7-2 on the season with a 28-10 victory over Battlefield High School. Slade had 84 yards of total offense and a rushing touchdown in the Bulldog victory. In North Stafford (VA), the North Stafford Wolverines and Nana Asiedu fell to 6-2 on the season due to a 24-21 loss against Brooke Point.

Back home in Pennslyvania, Mercyhurst Prep and Jesse Luketa remained undefeated on the season with a 65-6 victory over Lakeview. Luketa had a pick-six for the Laker defense. Also in the Erie area, Cathedral Prep and Juice Scruggs defeated Fort LeBoeuf 49-14 to join Mercyhurst with a 9-0 record.

More from Victory Bell Rings

In one of the most highly anticipated games of the 2017 Pennsylvania High School Football season, the Harrisburg Cougars and State College Little Lions did battle on Saturday afternoon. Led by Nittany Lion commit Shaquon Anderson-Butts the Cougars were 51-28 victors.

Anderson-Butts had 24 yards of total offense, he went 5/6 on extra point attempts, and he had an interception on defense. The Little Lions, however, were without Penn State class of 2019 commit Keaton Ellis who is dealing with an injury.

After a 21-7 victory over Central Bucks South, linebacker commit Nick Tarburton and the Pennridge Rams are now 7-2 this season. Tarburton had 18 yards rushing, six yards receiving, five tackles, three tackles for a loss, and an interception for the Rams. Tight end Zack Kuntz and the now 3-5 Camp Hill Lions were rolled by Steelton Highspire 41-6.

Linebacker commit Charlie Katshir missed Cumberland Valley’s 24-14 victory over Lower Dauphin due to a shoulder injury. Isheem Young and Imhotep Charter had their game against Paul International from Washington D.C. canceled.

To the east in New Jersey, five-star wide receiver Justin Shorter helped carry the now 5-1 South Brunswick Vikings to a 27-14 victory over Sayreville. Shorter finished the game with 121 receiving yards on six receptions.

In the Midwest, offensive tackle AJ Reed and the Muskegon Big Red (MI) continued to roll. After a 66-7 victory over Jenison High School, the Big Red finished the regular season with a 9-0 record. You can watch Reed’s impressive regular season film here.

Fellow Midwestern offensive tackle Bryce Effner and the Metea Valley Mustangs (IL) picked up a 37-33 victory over Rock Island High School. With the win, the Mustangs were able to finish a miserable season on a high note with their first – and only – victory of 2017. Meanwhile, Ankeny (IA) kicker Jake Pinegar remains out of action with a knee sprain.

In Texas, Trent Gordon and the 6-0 Manvel Mavericks annihilated Fort Bend Elkins 62-7. The now 7-0 Sachse Mustangs picked up a 52-8 victory over North Garland. Isaiah Humphries had a pair of tackles, including one for a loss in the victory.

Defensive tackle Judge Culpepper and the Plant Panthers (FL) are now 7-1 after a 58-6 blasting of Freedom High School. Culpepper had one reception for 22 yards, while also recording seven tackles. Cornerback Jordan Miner and the Wiregrass Ranch Bulls improved to 7-1 on the season with a 58-0 win against Leto. Miner had 121 yards of total offense. Next week, Plant and Wiregrass Ranch will square off agaisnt each other.
