Penn State Football: Position Grades in 42-13 win over Michigan
Secondary
For the first time since Iowa this unit didn’t come up with an interception. However, this ballhawking Penn State football secondary couldn’t allow itself to go without forcing a turnover. Christian Campbell made sure to fulfill this secondary’s turnover responsibility. He came up with a strip sack, and Robert Windsor recovered the fumble to complete another great night.
The back-end of Penn State football’s defense didn’t flinch when Michigan was forced to go the air. It helps that Wilton Speight wasn’t under center, but this secondary continues to impress. As a group, they held Michigan to just 5.9 yards an attempt and a 57.1 completion percentage while limiting them to just 166 yards.
Grant Haley and Lamont Wade deflected a pass each and kept sticking with receivers. Troy Apke and Marcus Allen combined for 10 tackles and Apke added a tackle for loss. Nick Scott and Amani Oruwariye added a combined seven tackles as well.
All this tackling production says one thing to offenses – they can play physical. Marcus Allen usually shows off the secondary’s power, but this group did a great job of corralling receivers and containing any receivers. It’s been a banner year for the Penn State football secondary.
