Penn State Football: Position Grades in 42-13 win over Michigan
Quarterbacks
It didn’t start off as the best night for Trace McSorley, but he climbed out to have a clutch performance. He threw the ball well and even got the deep ball involved again. On the ground, he put it all together for his best performance of the year.
Sure he misfired early and threw a poorly timed interception in Michigan territory, but his mental toughness knows no limits. He bounced back with authority. His aggressive mentality got to display itself on the ground as he hammered through defenders on his way to 76 yards and three touchdowns.
Through the air, he delivered nice strikes to DaeSean Hamilton, who’s quickly made himself the No. 1 wide out this season. He also got back on the same page with a now-healthy Mike Gesicki, as they connected for a 35-yard jump ball early in the game.
A sigh of relief can be breathed based on his recent play. He looks like he’s back to his normal self after a rough start to the year. McSorley isn’t perfect. No one is, but he’s had a lot of expectation placed on him. Even with sky-high expectations, he finds a way to live up to them.
